New Moon of Libra 2018 - The Mirror in Others (con traducción en español)

Updated: Apr 16, 2019

Many of you may or may not know this, but I am one of the most Libra of Librans on this earth. Not only is my sun in Libra, but my moon is also in Libra! How in the world I ever make a decision is beyond me (not really I have Mercury in Scorpio). I yearn and pine for harmony. I detest ugliness in people's attitudes. I crave connection and relationships with others. And I have worked all of my lived 33 (almost 34) years seeking to balance the scales of my rational mind and sensitive heart. One of the most interesting things I can say about being a Libra is that in any given situation where I find myself on one side of the table, I will eventually, down the road, find myself on the other. You see, Libra is the sign of the other's perspective. It is the sign that urges us to connect to a thought, feeling, or person that is outside of our known reality. Libra energy says, "yes, I understand your perspective, but what about the other side?" So often I drive my friends crazy because when they come to me with a problem, I will never immediately take their side. Libras are rational, dispassionate, and objective. We seek to understand the situation from all sides so that we can see it for what it truly is. So whenever someone comes to me with a problem they are having, my immediate thought is, "well, what role did you play?" While it isn't always productive in trying to understand my friends' emotional ups and downs, it does give me the ability to give objective and honest feedback. Were it not for the Libran energy that was imbued within me at my birth, I would not be as capable to give feedback and advice that takes my ego out of the situation. This is a characteristic of mine that I have been forced to work on throughout all my life. Every moment where I judged another person for acting a certain way or making a certain decision, I would invariably find myself in their shoes. Most Libras find that this happens to them more often than they'd care to admit. But I don't tell you this to toot my own horn, rather to give you an insight into what this month is going to be about and what an incredible opportunity we have available to us.

One thing before we look at the chart: kabbalisitcally, this month is considered the cosmic new year. The kabbalists explain that it was on the New Moon of Libra that humanity was made manifest in this world. Essentially, it's everyone's birthday, woohoo! So, not only are we going to understand what to expect in this month, but we will also understand what is to come in the following twelve month cycle (New Moon of Libra 2018 to New Moon of Libra 2019). Now, on to the chart!

There is something very notable happening in this chart: the ascendant is in Libra. The ascendant of the chart represents the general direction this month/year will take. With Libra on the ascendant, it is an immediate indication that we will go through experiences where the tables will turn. We will be placed on the other side of the situation in order to understand the opposing perspective. Consider the current controversy in the USA regarding black NFL players kneeling during the national anthem. On one side you have the players protesting police brutality by kneeling at the national anthem before every football game. For them, they kneel as a sign of protest against the disproportionate violence they experience at the hands of the police. On the other side, you have families of people who have lost those dearest to them in war: husbands and wives, brothers and sisters, sons and daughters, friends and colleagues. It also includes those who have family members currently serving or who have served in the past. They feel a tremendous level of disrespect from these actions, and in many, it awakens a very deep and real pain and emotional unrest. To them, they feel the players should find a different venue to voice their protest. To this, the players reply that is isn't about disrespecting members of the military, living or deceased, but rather, it is about protesting lives that are lost in their communities due to systemic racism. Their pain is just as visceral. As the conversation progresses, the argument repeats over and over again, until everyone is yelling, nobody is listening, and we sink deeper and deeper into disconnection and hatred.

Wouldn't it be interesting if all of these souls traded places in an instant? In that moment, they would begin to understand the other side's perspective in a way that they couldn't before. It would be as if they were on the other side of a mirror looking back at themselves and seeing exactly what the other side does and says to cause them pain. In truth, they would be confronted with the root of their own pain by seeing it from the outside looking in. Simply put, they are mirrors of each other's pain. Both have lost people they love, and both feel they are fighting for justice. If they could feel the other person's pain as their own, it could bring both sides closer to finding a solution. Imagine the powerful transformation that could be reached if they both sought to understand one another and started working together. To be clear, I am not advocating the rights of one group over the other. I am simply offering an alternative perspective.

This month/year on a spiritual level, this is what will happen to us in one way or another. The tables will turn, and we will find ourselves not only in someone else's shoes, but we will also find ourselves feeling the pain that we caused others by not seeking to understand their perspective or extend human dignity. It is only through this process that we can begin to heal ourselves, and as a result heal our relationships with others and create real and lasting change on a global level.

If we look at the sun and moon, we see them in Virgo in the twelfth house. Virgo is the sign of health, healing, and service, while the twelfth house is the house of the subconscious, isolation, and self-sabotage. This placement indicates that our focus should be towards an inward journey to confront and heal the wounds that we carry within us. Think about the example above, or any example where two sides that are deeply in pain are directly in conflict with each other. The root of this conflict is their mirrored agony, and the fuel that feeds the fire is a lack of empathy for the other side. Take a moment and consider if you have or have had a similar situation in your life where your own pain has lead to conflict with other people. What did you feel? How did you act out? What relationships were damaged? What opportunities were lost? Luckily, the energy of the sun and moon in Virgo, along with Virgo's ruler Mercury, will assist us by providing situations in which we will be urged to go within and heal our personal pain. From there, we can begin to reach out to the other side and understand their outlook and feel their pain, bringing connection, identification, and love. This month/year we can heal our deep seated wounds and leave them behind forever.

Notable in this chart is Venus, Libra's planetary Princess, in deep, dark Scorpio. This is a place where she really prefers not to be. Not only that, but she is at an almost direct opposition to Uranus and square to Mars. Remember all of those changes Uranus is starting to kick up? If not, you can read about it here. We will start feeling the emotional strain and deep unease these changes induce so that we can begin the process of personal revolution and transformation. There is also a direct opposition to the sun, moon, and Mercury from Neptune in Pisces. This will add a sense of cloudiness to our perceptions and make it difficult to distinguish emotional, illusionary drama from rational, objective reality. It will be very tempting to fall into a victim mindset and forget that the experience of being on the other side serves to bring us face to face with our darkness so that we can elevate beyond it. It acts as a catalyst to our process of personal growth and transformation. When you are in those situations, try to think back to past moments where you were the one on the long end of the stick. Consider how you can change your behavior once you are on the short end. Remember how your own inner darkness was rooted in a lack of empathy. It is only through honest self-examination, that we can uproot and discard those parts of ourselves that seek to undo all that we have worked for. It is in our best interest to allow these situations to transform us so that we can grow to a new level of happiness and fulfillment. Take it as an opportunity to commit to change, to commit to treating others with more love and compassion, and to allow yourself the opportunity to become someone new.

The Kabbalists gave us tools we can use to control the energy of each month. These tools are the Hebrew letters that control the sign and planet that rule each month. According the Zohar, the Hebrew alphabet is not just any normal set of letters. It is the physical manifestation of spiritual vibrations of energy. When we gaze upon the letters, their vibrations activate the Light of our soul. Once this Light is activated, we are given the power to overcome any negative influence, thereby taking our power back. This month, the Kabbalists teach that we can use the Hebrew letter "Pei" to control the planet of Venus and the Hebrew letter "Lamed" to control the sign of Libra. Any time we find ourselves falling into a one-sided perspective or victim consciousness, meditate on these letters simply by gazing upon them. Allow their Light to enter your consciousness and activate the Light of your soul. From there, you can clear your mind and move forward acting with your divine essence. Save and use the image below throughout this month to take your power pack, and reconnect with your true, inner Light.

Through these last ten years of deep spiritual study, I have come to realize that the only root cause of any suffering I experience is my lack of understanding the bigger picture. I had to learn to accept that the pain I felt was there to help me become a better version of myself. It is there to help me see a different point of view that I was unable to tap into. And it is there to help me learn to love and respect the feelings and thoughts of others as much as I do my own. This is a monumental year of transition and change. We must allow ourselves to let go of that which keeps us chained to past traumas, and instead, embrace openness and connection with those whom we feel there is none.
