Here we are, diving into the watery, emotional, and cozy energy of the month of cancer. Over the many years I have spent studying and practicing both Kabbalah and astrology, I hear a lot of people say how much they dislike the month of cancer because they feel it is such a difficult month. And, truth be told, it never really is one of the easiest times, but the first half of the month is one of my most favorite two weeks of the year. The reason being is that the moon is building in her light. She goes from new to full, and the light is increasing, becoming brighter, culminating in the full moon. This applies to all the months in fact, and the first two weeks of any lunar month are always very positive and great times to take on new endeavors. The second two weeks are always a time to wrap things up and bring them to completion. With Cancer, however, there is an extra special energy. Cancer is ruled by the Moon, so during this time she rules supreme and is in her most divine and glorious energy. She shines down love, connection, warmth, and feelings of being wrapped in a cozy blanket in front of the fire. The last two weeks after the full moon, is when the shift between positive to challenging begins. As the moon dissipates in her light, she turns melancholy, sad, bitter, and angry. During this time, she shines down an energy of lack and emptiness, which in turn, affects us and turns our attention to what we are missing instead of what we have been blessed with. We can see much of these two sides of the month of cancer in our Cancerian friends. One moment they are full of love, support and motherly energy, and then, suddenly, they can shift to moody, angry, and needy. This is the power of the Moon and the intense and direct influence she has over our emotional states. As we move through this month, we will need to be acutely aware of our emotions and how they are affecting our actions. There is a tremendous opportunity this month to purge old patterns and hit the stop button on those groundhog's day themes that continue to plague our lives. If we can elevate ourselves above the ebb and flow of our emotions, we hit play on a totally new movie in our lives that is rooted in excitement and growth.
Let's take a look at the chart of this month:
There are several powerful things happening on this new moon. The first is that we have the ascendant in Sagittarius with its ruler, Jupiter in Scorpio in the 12th house. Secondly, we have Jupiter's dispositor, Mars, conjunct the south node of the moon in the third house. The Sagittarius ascendant tells us that we will see many themes concerning differing belief systems, languages and cultures that are totally unfamiliar to us. This is supported by having the Sun and Moon in Gemini in the seventh house, which is the house of those we are in partnership with or those who are "other" than us. The Ascendant is our identity and the seventh house is the other person right in front of us. This "other" can be a partner or it can be an enemy. With Jupiter in Scorpio in the 12th house, we are going to be faced with subconscious prejudices, resentments, anger and fear surrounding differing belief systems, cultures, or languages that may threaten our sense of identity. For example, let's say you have spent all your life believing that the religious upbringing you had is the only belief system that is valid. This month, that person can be faced to work with someone who's religious beliefs are in complete opposition to their own. Maybe a Christian will have to work with an atheist, or a die-hard liberal has to work with a staunch conservative. Given the emotional nature of the month of Cancer, we can easily see how quickly our emotions will become activated and defensiveness can set in. This is the greatest danger of this month as it pits one belief system or philosophy against another, thus forcing us to face those subconscious prejudices and even hatred we hold inside of us.
If we go even deeper and look to Mars, we see an even greater danger, which if directed proactively, can actually be transformed into a divine elevation of consciousness. Mars is the planet of our will, assertiveness, and action, and at this point he is slowing down and preparing to go retrograde. As Mars slows down, his energy intensifies, which in turn, can transform the assertiveness into aggressiveness, passion into anger, action into violence. To add fuel to this fire, we have Mars in an exact conjunction to the south node of the moon. The nodes of the moon are very powerful placements as they indicate karmic patterns that we must learn to transform and overcome if we want to leave negative patterns of behavior in the past. The south node is the point in the zodiac where we discover what these patterns are. Both Mars and the south node are conjunct in Aquarius. Consider the ways in which our group affiliations have created separation and an us-vs-them mentality in our lives. Consider the anger you have felt towards people who have an opposing belief system to yours. As we begin to be faced with the "other" during this month, there is a tremendous opportunity to release ourselves from this anger and judgement towards those who have opposing view points, and instead, begin to nurture a connection and human bond with someone whom we may have demonized in the past. The question is; how do we go about doing this?
The answer lies with the Sun and Moon in Gemini in the seventh house with their dispositor Mercury in Cancer. Gemini is a sign of curiosity, communication, discussion, open-mindedness with an easy going attitude. The energy of Gemini does not hold on to emotional baggage. It gives us the capacity to release ourselves from the destructive effects that a feeling of lack can produce. For us to fully understand a person, not only do we need to feel an emotional connection, but we must also understand their points of view, their ways of thinking, and the way in which they apply their philosophies and belief systems in their lives. The key? Be curious. Ask questions. Seek to understand another person's point of view from an objective perspective. Release your preconceived notions, your prejudices, and your fear of vulnerability with someone who's different from you. Once we have initiated this open and judgement-free discussion, Mercury in Cancer will then open the door to form a deeper emotional connection to the other person, and we will begin to see them for their humanity and the similarities we have with each other. It is through open and free communication with others that we open the doors to experience that emotional connectedness the month of Cancer will yearn for. If we do not, then we will fall into even deeper anger, deeper resentment, and even an explosively destructive event that could undo much of what we have been working for over the last few months.
The first half of this month will be warm, nurturing, and a happy time. Once we enter the second two weeks, which begins on Saturday, June 30th, we will enter into a three week period known as the Bein Hametzarim. In Hebrew, this is a time where tremendous energy is released into the universe, but if we do not have a the capacity to handle it, we can get burned. If we focus our work on what I have outlined above, we can lay down a solid foundation to handle this energy once it begins to enter our universe. Whenever there an overflow of cosmic energy, it signifies a time where we must work diligently to direct our actions towards lovingly giving and sharing with everyone in our world. Take every opportunity to help someone, support your friend, and make a new friend you never thought you could have a friendship with. By sharing our energy out into the world, we become channels where this intense cosmic energy can flow through us rather than get stuck. If we do not shift into a sharing consciousness, the energy builds up inside of us and begins to cause overload. Think of it like taking a garden hose and folding it in half. The water is stopped and it cannot flow through the channel to water the plants. During this time, you are the garden hose. When you share your energy outward, you allow your Light to shine and water the garden that is your universe.
The Kabbalists gave us tools we can use to control the energy of each month. These tools are the Hebrew letters that control the sign and planet that rule each month. According the Zohar, the Hebrew alphabet is not just any normal set of letters. It is the physical manifestation of spiritual vibrations of energy. When we gaze upon the letters, their vibrations activate the Light of our soul. Once this Light is activated, we are given the power to overcome any negative influence, thereby taking our power back. This month, the Kabbalists teach we can use the Hebrew letter "Chet" to control the sign of Cancer and the Hebrew letter "Tav" to control the Moon. Any time we find ourselves falling into anger, bitterness, or emptiness, meditate on these letters simply by gazing upon them. Allow their Light to enter your consciousness and activate the Light of your soul. From there, you can clear your mind and move forward acting with your divine essence. Save and use the image below throughout this month to take your power pack, and reconnect with your true, inner Light.
This month holds one of the most power opportunities to elevate to a completely new level where our negative emotional patterns cease to affect us. With the help of the Creator, we will move forward feeling renewed and prepared to embrace the new level of joy and fulfillment that is meant for us.

Luna Nueva de Cancer 2018 - Liberándote del Pasado
Aquí estamos, sumergiéndonos en la energía acuosa, emocional y acogedora del mes del cáncer. Durante los muchos años que he pasado estudiando y practicando la Cabalá y la astrología, escuché a muchas personas decir cuánto les disgusta el mes del cáncer porque sienten que es un mes muy difícil, y, a decir verdad, nunca es uno de los momentos más fáciles. Sin embargo la primera mitad del mes es una de mis dos semanas favoritas del año. La razón es que la luna se está construyendo en su luz. Va de nueva a llena, y la luz aumenta, se vuelve más brillante y culmina la luna llena. Esto se aplica a todos los meses, de hecho las primeras dos semanas de cualquier mes lunar son siempre muy positivas y grandes momentos para emprender nuevos proyectos. Mientras que las segundas dos semanas son siempre un tiempo para terminar y completarlas. Con Cáncer, sin embargo, hay una energía especial extra. Cáncer está gobernado por la Luna, por lo que durante este tiempo ella gobierna supremamente y está en su energía más divina y gloriosa. Ella brilla por el amor, la conexión, el calor y la sensación de estar envuelta en una acogedora manta frente al fuego. Este mes, esa persona puede enfrentarse a trabajar con alguien cuyas creencias religiosas son completamente opuestas a las suyas. Tal vez un cristiano tendrá que trabajar con un ateo, o un liberal acérrimo tiene que trabajar con un conservador acérrimo. Dada la naturaleza emocional del mes de Cáncer, podemos ver fácilmente cuán rápidamente se activarán nuestras emociones y se pondrá a la defensiva. La pregunta es; ¿Cómo hacemos esto?
La respuesta está en el Sol y la Luna en Géminis en la séptima casa con su dispositor Mercurio en Cáncer. Géminis es un signo de curiosidad, comunicación, discusión, de mente abierta y actitud fácil. La energía de Géminis no se aferra al equipaje emocional. Nos da la capacidad de liberarnos de los efectos destructivos que un sentimiento de carencia puede producir. Para que comprendamos por completo a una persona, no solo debemos sentir una conexión emocional, sino que también debemos comprender sus puntos de vista, sus formas de pensar y la forma en que aplican sus filosofías y sistemas de creencias en sus vidas. ¿La clave? Ser curioso. Hacer preguntas. Intenta comprender el punto de vista de otra persona desde una perspectiva objetiva. Libera tus nociones preconcebidas, tus prejuicios y tu miedo a la vulnerabilidad con alguien que es diferente a ti. Una vez que hayamos iniciado esta discusión abierta y libre de juicios, Mercurio en Cancer abrirá la puerta para formar una conexión emocional más profunda con la otra persona, y comenzaremos a verlos por su humanidad y las similitudes que tenemos entre nosotros. Es a través de una comunicación abierta y libre con los demás que abrimos las puertas para experimentar esa conexión emocional que el mes de Cáncer anhelará. La primera mitad de este mes será cálida, nutritiva y feliz. Una vez que ingresemos a las segundas dos semanas, que comienzan el sábado 30 de junio, entraremos en un período de tres semanas conocido como Bein Hametzarim. En hebreo, este es un momento en el que se libera una tremenda energía en el universo, pero si no tenemos la capacidad de manejarlo, podemos quemarnos. Si enfocamos nuestro trabajo en lo que he descrito anteriormente, podemos establecer una base sólida para manejar esta energía una vez que comienza a entrar en nuestro universo. Siempre que hay un desbordamiento de energía cósmica, significa un tiempo en el que debemos trabajar diligentemente para dirigir nuestras acciones hacia dar y compartir con amor a todos en nuestro mundo. Aprovecha cada oportunidad para ayudar a alguien, apoyar a tu amigo y hacer un nuevo amigo con el que nunca pensaste que podrías tener una amistad. Al compartir nuestra energía en el mundo, nos convertimos en canales donde esta intensa energía cósmica puede fluir a través de nosotros en lugar de atascarse. Si no cambiamos a una conciencia de compartir, la energía se acumulará dentro de nosotros y comenzará a causar sobrecarga. Piensa en ello como tomar una manguera de jardín y doblarla por la mitad. El agua se detiene y no puede fluir a través del canal y regar las plantas. Durante este tiempo, eres la manguera de jardín. Cuando compartes tu energía hacia afuera, permites que tu Luz brille y riegue el jardín, el cual es tu universo.
